The Nursing Journal of India - Responsibilities of Reviewers

i. Contribution to Editorial Decisions

NJI believes that all scholars who wish to contribute to academic publications have an ethical responsibility to engage in fair and constructive peer review. Peer review plays a crucial role in helping editors make informed editorial decisions and provides authors with valuable feedback to improve their work. As a core component of scholarly communication, peer review upholds the integrity of the scientific method.

ii. Promptness

Promptness If a selected reviewer feels unqualified to assess the research in a manuscript or knows they cannot complete the review in a timely manner, they should promptly inform the editor and withdraw from the review process.

iii. Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential and should not be shared or discussed with others unless explicitly authorized by the editor.

iv. Standards of Objectivity

Reviews should be objective and focused on the content, not on personal criticism of the author. Referees are expected to provide clear, constructive feedback, supported by well-reasoned arguments.

v. Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify any relevant published work that has been overlooked by the authors and ensure that any claims regarding previous observations, derivations, or arguments are properly cited. Additionally, if the reviewer is aware of significant similarities or overlap between the manuscript and other published works, they should bring this to the editor's attention.

vi. Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Any unpublished materials shared in a submitted manuscript must not be used by reviewers in their own research without the author's explicit written consent. Information or ideas gained during the peer review process must remain confidential and not be used for personal gain. Reviewers should recuse themselves from evaluating manuscripts if they have conflicts of interest, such as competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with the authors, companies, or institutions involved in the paper.
