The Nursing Journal of India
Nursing Journal of India (NJI) is the one of the world’s oldest journal regularly published with a legacy of more than 100 years.
A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the Knowledge and Perceived Barriers regarding Research Publication and Publication Ethics among the Nursing Teachers by adopting a Quantitative Non-Experimental Research Approach across various nursing teaching institutions in India. A sample size of 76 nursing teachers was chosen for the study by adopting a convenience sampling technique. The data collection tool consisted of three sections: Section 1 consisted of 8 questions to collect demographic information about the participants. Section 2 is about the Self-Structured Knowledge Questionnaire comprising of 12 questions. Section 3 is about the Self-Structured Three-Point Rating Scale with 12 questions that measured the perceived barriers faced by nursing teachers about research publication and publication ethics. Content validity was established by consulting experts in the field of nursing. Five experts reviewed the tool. The reliability of the tool was measured and found to be 0.82 by applying the formula of Cronbach’s Alpha, indicating a high level of reliability. The results depicted that 43.4% of the teachers had moderate knowledge regarding Research Publication and Publication Ethics. It was seen that 55.2% had a strong level of perceived barriers, regarding research publication and publication ethics. The number of publications (p=0.021) had a statistically significant association with the level of perceived barriers regarding Research Publication and Publication Ethics among the Nursing Teachers at p<0.05 level. Research ethics, consent, and good practice are crucial aspects that need further emphasis in nursing education to promote ethical conduct and adherence to publication standards.
